Blues guitarist Jeff Healey dies

3/25/1966 – 3/2/2008

Guitar prodigy Norman Jeff Healey of Toronto died Sunday of cancer. He was 41. Healey, who shot to prominence in 1988 with the release of his debut album See the Light, had been blind since he was a year old, a condition brought on by the rear cancer retina blastoma.

He had battled the disease for much of his life and endured a number of health setbacks over the past few years, undergoing operations to remove cancerous tissue in both his legs and his lungs. But aggressive radiation treatments and chemotherapy failed to stop the disease from spreading.

The talented blind guitarist Jeff Healey performs George Harrison’s cover “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. IMO, the best version of the song ever done.
